ASAP Science on When and How You Will Die

A brief and simple video from ASAP science. Some of the comparative statistics are really good in this video. Worth mentioning to the next client you see who offers some irrational prioritisation of risks – a common failing. We tend to be most worried about things that are reported a lot in the news, or are unusual, or are rapidly rising in frequency. So we can end up worried about things that are unlikely while continuing to engage in very risky behaviour: eating what we like, not exercising enough and so on.

On the other hand, a couple of the ways the statistics were compared was over-simplified. Merely contrasting the number of cycling deaths with the number of walking deaths is no guide to a choice about whether to make a journey on foot or by bike. For that you need deaths per kilometre travelled, preferably for people like you, in your part of the country.
